Mixed Media

I've been doing a but of mixed media and tried to be a bit more messy and free with my artwork. I am compiling a little creative journal with lots of inspiration from colour and nature, as well as including uplifting quotes...

Children's Wear Design

So today I handed in the work I have been doing the last few months for Uni. The brief given was to create a Diffusion line from the Art of Fashion, but I was free to take this in my own direction. I have wanted to do kids wear design for ages now, so I took this opportunity and designed a girl's range inspired by the theme of 'Winter Woodland' and children's art and illustration. Below is the dress I made and the fabric I designed for leggings made to match, as well as some of my design work.

The Clothes Show Live (The Art of Fashion)

This year I was lucky enough to have my work featured in the graduates show at the Clothes Show Live at the NEC, Birmingham. The brief was called the Art of Fashion where I was challenged to create a Turner inspired dress from luxury silks and a knitwear piece inspired by Mondrian and/or Matisse. I am really proud of my finished pieces and felt that they looked really effective on the catwalk.

Upcycled Fashion

The second brief of the year led me to set up a mock business which involved up-cycling and eco friendly fashion. As a result I created this dress which is made up from old shirts and skirts (the skirt part) and organic jersey fabric (the top part). I was really pleased with the dress in the end although the pattern cutting and manufacture involved some different processes to what I'm used to. The whole brief was really interesting and I learnt a lot about up-cycling and how it can be so unique.

Hello everyone, I have made a survey for my research at college and would really appreciate it if you could fill it in if you have a spare moment. It is based on eco fashion and upcycling but even if this doesnt interest you, it will still be helpful. Just follow this link and submit your survey:

Final Flats

For my fiendish fairy tales project, I had to create 10 final flats which are the designs shortlisted before choosing the final design. I created the flats digitally using photo shop by scanning in my personalized figure and adapting and layering designs on Photoshop  Considering I was a Photoshop novice before this project, I am very pleased with the result :)

And here is my final Illustration:

Fiendish Fairy Tales

I have just finished my first brief for my foundation degree. The theme was 'Fiendish Fairy Tales' - the darker side of fairy tales. I found my inspiration mainly from illustrations of fairy tales with an unusual or dark twist. The brief asked me to design and make a cami style featuring surface decoration, and cut make and trim a pair of palazzo pants which would feature a print designed by myself. I really enjoyed this brief as the theme was so interesting and inspiring, however it got stressful towards the deadline, getting everything finished! A word of advice to everyone studying, plan and organize your work and make sure its not left to the last minute...otherwise not everything gets done.

Here is my finished top, featuring free machine embroidery and couching with threads. The neckline is bound and the tier on the bottom is gathered and shaped slightly. On the back is a grown on facing opening with hook and eye fastenings. I will put pictures of the palazzo pants and my sketchbook that went alongside this project up soon.
